Preschool

The Fundamentals First preschool program focuses on acclimating children to the early elementary school environment. Our play based curriculum and experienced teachers will build the important skills needed for school age children in small class sizes of six students.

Early Literacy

Early language skills including reading, writing, and phonics will be taught to promote communication. The alphabet, letter sounds, and building words will be taught as pre-reading skills. Grouping objects, naming and identifying colours, playing with words, and writing names will also be taught to build language and creativity.

Early Numeracy

An introduction to major math concepts including counting, addition, subtraction, measurement, data, and geometry will be given. 2D and 3D shapes will be taught, as well as counting forwards and backwards to 10, showing and comparing quantities of objects up to 10, sorting by attributes, problem solving, spatial awareness, and patterns.

Sensory Development

Students will begin to understand their senses and learn to interact with the world through them. Sensory play will develop nerve connections in the brain and trigger children's abilities to complete complex tasks as well as enhance social development and creativity.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills

Motor skills will be developed through physical activities using both small and large muscles. The focus will be on gaining strength, balance, coordination, independence, and endurance. We will also work on finger strength and the pincer grasp.
